“She simply put an ‘O’ in front of her name and went into business.”
Joe Guenther is the general manager and his wife Maddy is the owner. Many years ago, she wanted to open an Irish pub, so she simply put an ‘O’ in front of her name and went into business. That was 1989, and the location had been in her family for years before.
What started as a neighborhood watering hole on Shore Blvd has grown into a Gulfport institution — a place where the menu items carry the names of regulars and family, the kitchen runs serious Gulf seafood alongside craft burgers and daily specials, and the view is Boca Ciega Bay at sunset from your barstool.
More than thirty-five years later, O’Maddy’s is still owner-operated. Maddy and Joe are still behind the bar. The philosophy hasn’t changed: come as you are, eat well, stay for the sunset.
Owner-Operated Since 1989
Joe and Maddy Guenther still run the restaurant they founded. The owners are behind the bar, not behind a desk.
Named After the People Who Made It
Every menu item carries the name of a regular, a family member, or a staff member who inspired it. The menu reads like a roster of friends.
One Less Straw Pledge
A waterfront bar on Boca Ciega Bay takes the water personally. O’Maddy’s is a proud partner in the One Less Straw environmental pledge.
O’Maddy’s draws a crowd as mixed as Gulfport itself. Stetson University College of Law students unwind after class at the same bar where retired boat captains have been holding court for decades. Families bring the kids — there’s a kids’ menu and a Doggy Menu for the four-legged members. Boaters dock across the street by the Gulfport Casino and walk over for lunch.
With over 4,400 Google reviews and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award, O’Maddy’s reputation is built on consistency — the same quality food, the same welcoming patio, the same sunset over the bay, year after year.
Live Music on the Waterfront
O’Maddy’s has been hosting live musicians for as long as anyone can remember. The waterfront patio becomes an open-air stage, and the crowd provides the atmosphere. Whether it’s a solo acoustic act on a Tuesday or a full band on Saturday night, the music is part of the O’Maddy’s experience.
